Glove Ports
Glove ports for gloveboxes and isolators generally come in standard circular (round) and oval/elliptical shapes, with sizes ranging from 4 to 15 inches (102 to 381 mm). These access points are critical for maintaining airtight, sterile, or hazardous environments in laboratory, pharmaceutical, and industrial settings.
1. Common Glove Port Shapes
Round (Circular): The most common and widely used shape. They are easy to seal, manufacture, and accommodate a wide variety of standard gloves.
Oval (Elliptical): Typically used in 8-inch and 12-inch sizes. They are designed to mirror the natural side-by-side spread of an operator’s hands, reducing operator fatigue and improving reach inside the enclosure.
Iris Ports: Instead of traditional gloves, these self-sealing silicone/rubber ports tighten securely around an operator’s bare arms or specialized tools to allow for delicate work in environments that do not require full glove enclosure.
2. Standard Port Sizes (Diameter)
Port sizes refer to the diameter of the circular opening or the diameter across the narrow side of an oval port. The most widely used industry sizes are:
6-inch (152 mm): Common for smaller tabletop units or specific pharmaceutical/electronics operations.
8-inch (203 mm): The industry standard for most standard gloveboxes.
10-inch (254 mm): Used for bulkier tasks or operators with larger hands and arms.
12-inch (305 mm) & 15-inch (381 mm): Used for larger-scale industrial processing and heavy-duty containment.
3. Materials and Installation Types
Materials: Ports are usually manufactured from Polypropylene (PP), Delrin, PTFE, PVC, or 304/316L Stainless Steel.
Push-Through / Single-Piece Ports: Allow gloves to be changed quickly and safely without compromising the containment.
Clamp/O-Ring Mounts: Traditional fixed glove ports that require manual fastening of the glove to the port using a worm-drive clamp or rubber O-ring to ensure an airtight seal.

The Rapid Transfer Port (RTP) is a Double Door Transfer System that leverages our established transfer technology. This system includes two primary components: the alpha flange and the beta assembly. The alpha flange is typically installed on the wall of an enclosure, while the beta assembly is mobile and can be attached to a container, bag, or process component. When these two parts are connected, materials can be quickly transferred in and out of an enclosure without breaching containment, ensuring product, environment and operator’s safety.
